Somali Media Women Association (SOMWA) strongly condemns the unjust decision by the Somaliland authority in which it is ordering the local TV providers to remove Star and Universal TV channels from their receivers to prevent these TVs from the public seen.
The move came two days after the Somaliland government revoked the license from the two TVs as it accused Universal TV of refusing to broadcast the live speech of the country’s president Muse Bihi on the national day (26th June). The reason of Star TV closure is yet unclear.
“We call on S/land authorities to reconsider their act to revoke the authorizations of both TV channels and allow them to resume their work.” Maryan Seylac, the executive director of SOMWA said. “This actually will be betrayal to their democracy.
