SOMWA denounces the arrest of the VOA correspondent in Baidoa

Somalia Media Women Association (SOMWA) has denounced the arrest of the VOA Somali section journalist Mukhtar Atosh in Baidoa by the authorities of Southwest autonomous region, calling it as unacceptable and in violation of the freedom of press.

According to a reliable source, the reason of Atosh’s detention is yet unclear.

“We are very worried about the situation of VOA correspondent who was jailed in Baidoa by the security forces while he was in his duty.” Maryan Seylac, the executive director of SOMWA said.

The journalist’s custody came in difficult time as the country fights the coronavirus pandemic or COVID-19.

The association is calling for an immediate release of the journalist Atosh.
