Somali Media Women Association (SOMWA) has today concluded a one-day training workshop for 15 female journalists in Baidoa, the interim administrative capital of the Southwest regional state of Somalia.
The workshop focused on election reporting for journalists based in the city.
It was also designed to help journalists in Southwest region, Somalia strengthen their knowledge of the electoral process to promote effective and accurate reporting of elections.
This training was also aimed to improve the quality of the journalists and to guide them on elections reporting. To present concepts about the electoral process so that the journalists can do their work more professionally.
Topics addressed during the workshop include, Fair and balanced media coverage during elections which can foster transparency, providing opportunities for information and knowledge sharing, promoting an inclusive electoral process, and serve as an effective forum for public debate, all of which strengthens democratic resilience.
This followed by the reporting training workshop elections organized by African Union Mission in Somalia which was held in Kampala, Uganda on October 2019. SOMWA was part of that training.
The workshop was facilitated by the chairman of Southwest journalists Association Muxidin Husni and media legend Mukhtar sheikh Adan Dalmar.
